New Students: What to Expect

Starting something new can feel intimidating — we get it. At Striker’s Edge Krav Maga & Combat Academy, our goal is to make your first experience welcoming, informative, and empowering from the moment you step through the door.

Your First Class

Your first class is designed to help you feel comfortable while giving you a real taste of how we train.

  • We begin by covering basic movements, concepts, and safety guidelines

  • You’ll then jump into the current week’s lesson, working at your own pace

  • Classes wrap up with discussion, review, and time for questions, so you leave confident and informed

No prior experience is required — our instructors will guide you every step of the way.

Required Training Gear

As training becomes more intense, protective gear is required for certain classes and levels. This allows us to train realistically while keeping everyone safe.

  • If required gear is not brought to class, you may sit out that day’s training

  • Gear is essential for real-world self-defense training, especially at higher levels

  • Required gear helps prevent injuries and allows for effective, controlled training

  • Protective gear is available for purchase at the academy

Your instructors will guide you on what gear is needed and when.

Health & Wellness Policy

  • If you are feeling sick or unwell, please stay home

  • Staying safe and healthy is our #1 priority for students and staff

  • We are committed to maintaining a clean, well-maintained training environment

  • Mats and equipment are regularly cleaned and inspected

What to Wear

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely
(athletic pants/shorts, t-shirts, or similar workout attire)

  • No restrictive or baggy clothing

  • Barefoot training unless otherwise instructed

  • Bring water — coaches will provide drink breaks throughout class

Student Expectations & Safety Guidelines

To ensure a safe and respectful training environment for everyone:

  • All jewelry must be removed before stepping onto the training floor
(for your safety and to prevent injury or property damage)

  • Please leave bags, shoes, gear, and drinks in designated areas

  • Follow instructor directions at all times

  • Train with control, respect, and awareness of others

Safety is a shared responsibility — and it’s a top priority here.
